Railway of Hope: The Movie
AASG has produced a 25-minute film, Railway of Hope. The film is being distributed to all Alaska High Schools along with a discussion guide starting in October 2013. Railway of Hope can be used in high school classes and for teacher training. You can request the film for your school by emailing ma2tna@acsalaska.net.

Kognito: Being an Avatar and Practicing Helping
Kognito is an award-winning developer of role-playing training simulations and games in health and behavioral health. Users learn effective communication tactics for managing challenging conversations by practicing speaking with intelligent, fully animated, and emotionally responsive avatars that act and respond like real humans. Kognito is also developing an At-Risk Simulation for High School Students. You can try the demos. The State of Alaska has purchased the program license for Kognito High School Educators. It is free for Alaska educators to use. Access the training.

Alaska Gatekeeper Training
This is an online program developed by the Department of Education using the Gatekeeper training materials.

SafeTalk
Learn about SafeTalk, a program that helps youth develop skills to help their friends when they talk about hurting themselves.

Stop Suicide Alaska
An Alaska statewide suicide prevention web portal, a vehicle for on-line collaboration, marketing materials sharing, and discussion and sharing. Set up by Alaska DHHS.

Fall Resolutions Passed

The AASG General Assembly passed 12 resolutions at this Fall’s conference. The resolutions covered a large range of topics of interest to students. Find the resolutions here.

AASG Executive Board members Maggie Cothron (Region 4 Representative), Joshua Pak (Region 4 Junior Representative) and AASG SBEED Representative Maddelyn Brokaw were all in Juneau recently. Maggie and Joshua participated in the Alaska Association of School Boards’ Legislative fly-in and Youth Advocacy Institute. Madelyn is the AASG representative to the State Board of Education. AASG members are bringing student voice to our representatives in Juneau!

FRIENDSHIPS

AASG offers many opportunities to make friends and learn from each other. AASG has the Beamer Wall at conferences, and builds in lots of time for students to share, from all over Alaska. Delegates have a great time sharing at the AASG Conference.
